If so, we have an exciting temporary opportunity for you! We're seeking a dedicated Camp Health Director to join our team for a unique summer program at the University of Maryland College Park.
About the Role
Imagine spending your summer supporting bright and enthusiastic high school students as they participate in a challenging and enriching academic seminar. As the Camp Health Director, you'll be at the heart of ensuring their well-being, managing all health and safety needs, and creating a positive and supportive environment. This is your chance to combine your medical expertise with your love for working with young people and contribute to an unforgettable summer experience.
What You'll Do
Before Campers Arrive (Part-Time, Hourly):
Dive into camper medical histories, collaborating with parents and staff to prepare for any individual needs.
Set up the camp infirmary, creating a welcoming and functional space.
Team up with the Assistant Health Director, Camp Director, and staff to refine health and safety plans and procedures.
Complete any necessary training required by the state of Maryland and the University of Maryland.
Occasionally collaborate with health directors at other program sites to share best practices and ensure consistent care.
During Camp (Full-Time, Salaried):
Be readily available for consultation and support 24/7 - you're the go-to person for all health-related matters!
Put the health and safety plan into action, ensuring its medical components are implemented smoothly.
Oversee camp health and sanitation, creating a clean and healthy environment for everyone.
Conduct initial health screenings and daily health surveillance of campers, keeping a watchful eye on their well-being.
Respond to health emergencies and injuries with confidence, coordinating transportation to medical care when needed.
Maintain the camp medical log, keeping accurate records of all health-related events.
Manage the infirmary operations, ensuring it's well-stocked and running efficiently.
Administer camper medications, including intake inventory and supervision of self-administration.
Train designated staff members on medication administration, empowering them to support camper health.
Join campers on exciting field trips, providing on-site medical support.
After the program wraps up, inventory and pack up the infirmary and medical paperwork, leaving it ready for next year.
Work closely with the Assistant Health Director to ensure adequate staffing coverage throughout the program.
Meet regularly with the supervisor and other program staff to ensure the ongoing health and safety of everyone involved.
Provide valuable feedback to the supervisor to help improve future programs.

What You'll Bring
Maryland State certification or Compact Nursing License as a physician, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse.
Readiness to be readily available for consultation during camp hours (24/7).
Flexibility to reside on-site during the program if needed (in the unlikely event that 50% or more of campers have identified medical problems as defined by Maryland statute).
Open availability throughout the program dates - no other significant commitments during this time.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills - you'll be interacting with a variety of people!
Strong judgment and problem-solving abilities - you'll be making important decisions.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, especially during emergencies.
Top-notch organization, attention to detail, and adaptability - you'll be juggling multiple tasks.
Proficiency in Google Drive and other web-based communication tools - staying connected is key.
Proof of FDA- or WHO-authorized or approved COVID-19 primary vaccination and other required vaccinations or an approved exemption.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion - camper privacy is essential.
Ability to meet travel requirements of the position.
Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Bonus Points For
2+ years of experience working in children's summer camps or educational environments, especially with high school students.
Access to a personal vehicle, a driver's license, and a clean driving record.
Experience with and commitment to promoting anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Experience working with students of color, working-class students, LGBTQIA+ students, and/or other students from marginalized backgrounds.

$1,700/week (salaried) during the program period.
