Job Description and Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs or their administrator designee, the Librarian, C.F. performs difficult professional work in connection with selecting, cataloging, loaning, or the reference use of books and other library materials. The Librarian maintains order and supervises the conduct of persons committed to the Departments of Corrections; prevents escapes and injury by these persons to themselves or others or to property; maintains security of working areas and work materials; inspects premises and searches incarcerated persons for contraband, such as weapons or illegal drugs. The Librarian possesses working knowledge of the principles, trends, and practices of professional library work; modern library methods, techniques, and terminology; standard reference materials, library tools, guides, and indexes; library purposes, trends, and organization.  The Librarian applies professional knowledges to the practical problems of the job; establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with library users, co-workers, supervisors, and others contacted during the course of work; analyzes situations accurately and takes effective action; speaks and writes effectively.  This advertisement may be used for other vacancies that occur during the life of this recruitment.   ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE SCREENED AND ONLY THE MOST QUALIFIED WILL BE INTERVIEWED.  Questions:  661-721-2345, extension 6723/6742.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
